Google Business Profile for Bihar shops: get on Google Maps in one afternoon

Most customers now decide where to go before they leave home. They search "chemist near me" or "tent house in Sasaram", look at the three shops Google shows on the map, and call one of them. Those three places come from Google Business Profile (earlier called Google My Business). It is free, and any shop in Bihar can set one up.

What you need before you start

• A Google account (your Gmail works)
• Your shop's exact name as written on the board
• Full address with landmark and PIN code
• The phone number customers should call
• Opening hours, and 5–10 clear photos

Step-by-step setup

1. Open Google Maps, search your shop's name, and check whether a listing already exists. If it does, tap Claim this business instead of creating a duplicate.
2. If not, go to business.google.com and choose Add your business.
3. Pick the most specific category — "Sweet shop", not "Store"; "Pathology laboratory", not "Medical".
4. Place the map pin exactly on your shop, not on the main road.
5. Add phone number, website and hours.
6. Verify the listing. Google chooses the method — a short video of your shop and signboard, a phone call or SMS, email, or a postcard. The video method is common now: show the board, the inside of the shop and something that proves you run it, like the counter or billing machine.

Fill it properly — this is what ranks

• Description: 2–3 lines on what you sell and which area you serve. Write naturally; do not stuff keywords.
• Products and services: add your main items with prices where possible.
• Photos: shop front by day, inside, products, and your team. Add new photos every month.
• Website link: use your Bihar Directory page if you do not have a website — it gives customers your services, timings and an enquiry form. List your business to get one.

Keep name, address and phone the same everywhere

Google trusts a business more when the same name, address and phone number appear on your board, your Google profile, Bihar Directory, Facebook and your bills. Even small differences ("Sharma Electricals" vs "Sharma Electrical Works") weaken that trust.

Reviews and replies

Common mistakes

• Adding the city name to the business name ("Raj Mobile Patna Best Shop") — Google can suspend the listing.
• Two listings for the same shop.
• Wrong hours on festivals — update special hours before Chhath, Diwali and Eid.
